A short scan appointment. A reason for patients to come back.
GumGear makes custom-fit mouthguards from a cast of the customer’s own bite. Customers in orthodontic treatment can’t use our at-home impression kit — putty can’t release cleanly around brackets and wires. The only reliable way to capture their bite is a professional, in-person scan. We’re looking for practices willing to provide that scan as a short, paid appointment.
What GumGear is
GumGear is a direct-to-consumer brand that makes custom-fit mouthguards and protective mouthpieces — for contact sports, combat sports, scuba diving, and other uses — built from a cast of the customer’s own impression rather than a boil-and-bite shell. Customers normally take that impression themselves at home with a kit we ship them. We handle design, manufacturing, and shipping end to end; the patient never has to visit us.
Why braces change the process
Putty-based impressions don’t release cleanly around brackets and wires, so the at-home kit simply isn’t an option for anyone currently in orthodontic treatment. A digital scan, taken chairside, is the only accurate alternative — and that’s the gap this program exists to close.
What we’re asking of your practice
The ask is small: a brief in-office appointment to take a digital scan of the patient’s upper and lower arches — most practices complete this chairside in under ten minutes with equipment they already use for other digital impressions. Once that’s done, your part is finished.
We email an upload link the same day the patient orders. Your team sends back the scan file — STL or PLY — and GumGear takes it from there: manufacturing, shipping, and any customer support the patient needs. You’re not involved in fulfillment or aftercare, and the finished guard ships to the patient in about 10–14 days, same as every other GumGear order.
Why this is worth your chair time
Every scan appointment is a booking that wouldn’t otherwise exist — a patient coming in specifically for this, on top of your regular schedule.
For patients already in your chair for orthodontic care, it’s a natural add-on visit rather than a referral sent elsewhere.
Customers who find GumGear first and need a scan may not already have a dentist in their area. That scan appointment is their first visit to your practice.
Where this stands today
This program is new. We don’t have case studies or a roster of partner practices to point to yet — this is the first conversation, not a pitch about an existing network. What we can tell you: the arrangement is paid, and we’d rather go over the specifics directly with you than publish a rate card. If the model above makes sense for your practice, we’d like to talk.
